Long Term Road Test - Toyota Prius

Vehicle Tested: 2010 Toyota Prius
Long term test: 7,000 miles
Vehicle from: cars4u.com
Conclusion: Third generation hybrid drives like a sporty luxury five door while delivering real-world 50 miles-per-gallon.

Winsome Tv Trays

PROS:

Winsome Tv Trays

50 mpg (3.8 litres per 100km in Canada) real world Solid real-car handling with sporty aspirations (for a Toyota) Small car exterior, mid-size car interior Understated luxury as only Toyota can manage Vastly improved ergonomics and instruments Sleek design with best drag co-efficient of any production car Quiet ride Seemless transition from electric to hybrid

CONS:

Slightly less legroom versus 2009 Depending on your point of view, CSV transmission (this reviewer liked its responsiveness) Price, although it is good value for the total package.

Toyota owns hybrid in the market, even though Honda was technically first. With the numbers of Prius models on the road surpassing many non-hybrid competitors, Toyota can claim the title of Hybrid "owner." Its past generation downsides included: bizarre design (part of its mystique), underpowered drivetrain, and transition clunkiness.

All that changes with the new Prius. While retaining the best-in-class mileage ratings, even compared to Toyota's other hybrid models, and some of the signature look, the third generation Prius 2010 model has gone "mainstream" enough to attract millions more to the marque. Currently they're managing approximately 20,000 units sold per month in the US. The only real downside to a Prius is its price, but in the hybrid category it's competitive. Where buyers sometimes stumble is when comparing the Prius (or any hybrid) to an economy four-banger at several thousand dollars less.

Abraham Blinick, Operations Manager at cars4u.com convinced me to review the car. "We sell and lease a lot of cars," said Blinick. "This is the car I like so much I bought one myself. I like the design elements and definitely the functionality."

Apples to Oranges

On a purely economical comparison, the Prius can never win against an economy four-cyclinder model from any manufacturer. It isn't meant to. One drive in the Prius shows why. Long term, the livability of the Prius, versus a small economy car with comparable (but inferior) fuel economy, becomes apparent. The Prius is larger, far more comfortable, fun to drive-for many, the perfect balance of luxury, compactness, technology, sportiness, economy and price. It's finally a real mid-size car.

Definite Lexus features abound, with available features such as assisted park and backup cameras. Even the standard equipment is above average for the price.

Sticker Shock?

Not really. For the level of equipment, even without hybrid technology, this car would feel about price right. The problem is, there's no really stripped down version that makes this an "entry-level" car, which comes in states-side at ,500. At these prices, Toyota will continue to have a best seller, projecting to sell 100,000 in America during 2009 and 180,000 next year. They are on target to exceed these numbers.

Long Term Test

Before drilling down to economy, performance, fit and finish, I'll begin with the long-term perspective. A short-term test won't always identify flaws. A long term test always reveals the true character of a car, for better or worse.

Miles Per Gallon

After 7,000 miles, the mileage remained in real terms in the 50 mpg range (US gallons), even with aggressive driving mixed in. With a feather-light pedal (think hyper-milling), this can improve by as much as 20 percent. Without question, this is the most fuel efficient production cars on the road, even slightly beating out previous generation Prius models. I regularly managed 600 miles per tank, which fills up, on average, for around .

Performance

Even if you press the "Economy" button on the center console-to get a true measure of it's enviro-worthiness-when you need power, a quick press of the accelerator pedal delivers "press back in the seat" power. The 0-60mph sprint will not make a Porsche cower in it's garage, at 9.8 seconds, but the passing power is quite exhilarating and the power is ultra smooth. The electric motor delivers instant torque, which makes the car feel very responsive.

Total output of the combined drive train, electric and gas running together, is 134 hp. Long term, the car never lost its snappy charm, always feeling ready to pass a slow poke-which is ironic considering Prius is notoriously known as the "slow lane car." The rapidity with which the digital speedometer climbs can get you in trouble with highway patrol if you're not alert. The car is very quiet at all speeds, slightly noisy on a full throttle hill climb, which makes use of the cruise control very important to avoid tickets. When combined with the stability of the suspension, you don't feel like you're going that fast.

Handling

The third generation Prius is an all new platform, and has sporty aspirations. It's not a sports car, but the cornering is flat, even on the sharpest, hard corners and the new electric steering gives nice road feel. It does not feel like any other Toyota on the road, although it's closest to a Matrix. The non-slip cannot be defeated for sporty slides, so be content with stable, flat corners.

I extensively test drove the car in early 2009 snow and also on tortuous dirt roads. The car remains glued to the road, even in slippery conditions, and aside from a little jarring on the heavy dips (understandable considering the sporty suspension), it's a comfortable drive on country roads.

Braking

Braking is at least as important as acceleration. The 2010 Prius brakes without nose dive, grips tight, and the slip control ABS is only slightly intrusive. It's a nice package, and feels safe.

Of course, a unique feature of the Prius is that the massive batteries are charged with braking and also coasting. With cruise control engaged, the engine automatically engine-brakes to keep speed from creeping up, while using the coasting energy to recharge batteries.

Comfort

After 7,000 miles, my impressions remain the same: the Prius is comfortable and firm and quiet. It's a nice place to spend long hours on the highway, with the fine stereo cranked, the nicely cushioned seats, and just-right steering wheel. The ergonomics are perfection, with everything within easy reach, and many controls on the steering wheel. The rear seats are equally comfortable, and cargo space is improved over previous generations.

The dash and instruments are enjoyable, even in bright sunshine. Although it's digital, it's an enhanced bright display, with meaningful information easily seen. I'm not a fan of center-pod displays for speedometer, but Toyota placed it exactly right to keep it right in line of vision. With the low seating position and dash display position, you can see the readouts without glancing down or away fromt he road.

Our tester model did not have lane-keeping assist, parking assist or radar-controled distance keeping. We did however have the sports package with 17 inch allow wheels, superior tires and nice finishing touches.

Design and Finish

After 7,000 miles, everything remained tight and Toyota-like. Definitely opt for the tan interior. The gray is a deadly Toyota gray and far too bland for long term living. The number of storage compartments is above ordinary: two glove boxes, a storage tray under the center console, arm rest storage, and secret trunk compartments in the hatch back area. With seats folded flat, the storage is impressive. Our tester had the leather interior and fit and finish was tight and Lexus-quality.

Initial Walk Around

When our reviewers first saw the Prius, sitting in our parking lot, shiny white with sport wheels, there was a definite "aha" factor. The car simply looks better in person than in photographs. The "aha" factor continues when the hood is popped for an inspection.

Sitting in our tan and grey interior tester, it felt immediately comfortable, even luxurious, with a bit of Lexus flair. Combine the tight fittings and nice cabin, with some very futuristic touches-in particular the instruments-and the car immediately feels special. Press the start button, to utter silence (no engine noise), and there's a definite "wow" factor if you haven't driven in a hybrid previously.

Competitors

The competitors haven't really caught up. Even Toyota's other hybrid models don't have the unique blend of feel, looks and economy offered in the third gen Prius. It's uniqueness either makes it a sure-bet with no competitors, or a last choice if you trend towards conventional design cars. The main competitors currently, with somewhat lesser mileage ratings are: Ford Fusion Hybrid, Honda Civic Hybrid, Honda Insight, Altima Hybrid. Also midsize is the Toyota Camray Hybrid, but it's not in the same class for economy as the Prius, Insight or Fusion.

I Wish My Wife Would Lose Weight

I have a sure fire way for any husband to get his wife to lose weight or do anything else he wants her to do for that matter. Sometimes I just do not understand why men don't get it. For some reason they think women are so darn complex, but we are really not all of that. Simple things go a long way in a relationship, and once you get the understanding of that secret it is going to do wonders for your relationship.

Winsome Tv Trays

So here it is guys the absolutely huge secret to getting your wife to lose weight - ready, hold on tight. HELP HER! That's it, two simple words. Help her. But you know what a lot of men do? They talk about their wives and make quips about their weight. They bash them with their mouths which does nothing more than tear down their wife's confidence. And if they not doing that, then their heads are turning towards some little pretty young thing which their wife used to be before having their babies and ripping and running with the kids all day.

Winsome Tv Trays

If you want your wife to look better, feel better and lose weight then help her and don't tell you are doing it either. Here are some simple things you can do that will blow her mind and get her to lose weight at the same time.

1. Come home early enough and start taking walks together. Walking one hour a few days a week is going to get the fat going. Spend time romancing her during the walk. It will build her up and she will never know that your main motivation was weight loss.

2. Sign up for healthy cooking classes and go to the class together. Cooking classes are a lot of fun, you meet wonderful people and learn things that you can instantly use. This is going to help inspire a change in what you purchase for grocery which will result in weight loss.

3. When you see her bring in a box of say, donuts or sitting down about to devour the entire tray of Oreos. Distract her and say honey can you help me to do something. By the time she finishes doing the chore she probably will have forgotten about the cookies. Then just politely remove them to the freezer.

4. Exercise together. Find fun things to do like taking a dance class or dancing in the privacy of your room. Wash the car together. Join a martial arts group. Do water sports or water aerobics. You will be building your relationship while loosing weight at the same time.

5. Praise her. Tell her how wonderful she looks right now and how glad you are to have her in your life.

6. When you notice the weight coming off, buy her a new outfit one size smaller and tell her you noticed that she was losing a little weight and that she just might be needing some new clothes. This will blow her mind.

By the time you get through doing all these wonderful, simple little things, both of you would have lost weight and be much happier. The dynamics of your relationship would have changed for the better and you would have gotten your goal accomplished without ever having to say one word. Not one single word.

The success of your marriage and the happiness that you want in it has a lot to do with how you choose to handle your wifes emotions and needs. When you help it will bless more than her. You will reap a beautiful response to the good you have sown. There may be some hesitation at first. Because this change in character is something that she is not used to, but once she begins to trust you in that area, you both are going to get blessed.

Customer Service - It's the Little Things That Count

When I first flew on Virgin Atlantic from Los Angeles to Heathrow, I was blown away. The first thing you see inside the immense cabin, is a well groomed and smiling staff all dressed in Red. They welcome you to the flight and hand you a gift bag full of slippers, an eye cover, toothbrush, toothpaste, and an assortment of other goodies. Each seat is equipped with television monitors and interactive consoles where you can choose between movies, games, trivia, and television programs. The staff comes up and down the rows every twenty minutes or so. They are offering you drinks, snacks and moist towels. We were in the economy class, yet treated like first class passengers. This is what it means to take care of the little details in order to blow away the customer. Whenever I go back to the U.K. or Australia, I will definitely choose Virgin and I would recommend it to others. Their mission is accomplished.

Last year I did a consulting project in Japan, and I was treated to a stay at the Hyatt in Tokyo. Upon arrival, the staff will run up to you and take your bags from your hands and guide you to the front desk area. A staff member waits for you to check in and then will take you to your room. They organize your room and show you the amenities. There are drawers that contain any amenity that you could think of; razors, lotion, masks, hair covers, colognes. I watched the man running around the room, trying to make everything perfect. My Japanese friend said that tipping was not necessary, but I just had to give him some money when he departed the room. I wasn't impressed with the grandness of the room or the view so much. I was impressed with the attention to detail with the amenities and the staff. The minute you approached the lobby, someone in the staff would run up to you and ask you if needed something. You asked the directions to the bar or the bathroom, they would not point it out to you, they would walk you to it. The little things that made a difference will always be a part of my memory.

Winsome Tv Trays

I was a manager of a Four Diamond Hotel in Downtown Seattle for awhile. There was an older bellman and valet that worked nights with me. If the other valets would wear a standard jacket, this guy would show up in a full suit and long coat. He would smile to the guest and solicit conversation and offer suggestions. If he had to go to serve a room service customer, he would bring the tray up and smile to the guest. He was warm and friendly and the customer always appreciated him for it. All of my staff was friendly, but there was something in his manners and attention to detail that made him stand out from the others. Attention to detail was the key to his success, and as a result he was rewarded in tips and complements on a consistent basis.

Any company that gets the message of attention to details and taking care of the small stuff, will outshine the larger conglomerate companies that take people in by the numbers. The Panera Bread Company is always busy because of the wide selection and the free internet service. I recently visited a very large church that had child cares, teen centers, and smoothie bars. This particular church was packed and had multiple services in two different locations. Perhaps the message was the same as any other church, but the attention to details had it packed to the rim. The great thing about taking care of the small stuff, is it doesn't usually require that much more capital, but the reward in customer loyalty and income is immeasurable.

Connect Your Computer To Your Xbox 360 Using Winamp Remote, Windows Media Player 11, or a Windows Me

Your Xbox 360 is an amazing piece of technology, it can play the latest games, and movies in HD, play your favorite songs from it's hard drive, download updates over the internet when it's on and off. The amount of things you can do with it is probably endless, well, endless unless Microsoft legally restricts it, like they did with mod chips. With new software coming out to support your Xbox 360 you can now connect it to your PC and stream all your music and videos from there, rather than wasting your precious hard drive space on your 360. Some software even lets you stream videos from internet sites like YouTube and AOL. If you want to do this you have three options for streaming to your Xbox 360: Windows Media Player 11, WinAmp Remote, or by using your Windows Media Center PC.

Winsome Tv Trays

Using Windows Media Player 11
First make sure your Xbox 360 is connected to the network and can connect to Xbox Live. Open up Windows Media Player 11, and click on the arrow directly below the Library tab, then click on Media Sharing. A Media Sharing Window will popup, now check the "Share my media to:" box and click on your Xbox 360. Select allow and click okay. Wait a little bit. You'll have to wait for the system settings to take effect and for the Xbox to show up in the network, if you've waited and nothing's happening try redoing the process or opening up the ports on your router for the 360 (a good place to do that is Port Forward) because they could be blocking it, and also make sure there isn't a firewall enabled somewhere that is causing problems. After you've waited, get on your Xbox and select the Media blade, then Music or Videos, and then press X to change your source and select your computer. Everything you have in your library will show up on your 360 now. Enjoy your songs and videos.
WinAmp
Download and Install WinAmp Remote. Right click the WinAmp Remote icon in the system tray, click configure, and then media tab. Add the folders that contain your music and your video files. Again, you'll need to wait a little bit for the network to show up with the 360. Go to your Media blade on your Xbox 360 and press X to change the source and select your PC. Enjoy your media.
Windows Media Center PC
Go to http://www.xbox.com/pcsetup to download the necessary software updates for your PC. On your Xbox 360 go to the Media lade, select Windows Media Center, and follow the easy, on screen instructions to complete your setup.

Winsome Tv Trays

Each of these options are very easy to implement, and have different pros and cons. Currently, Windows Media Player is faster at streaming and buffering than WinAmp Remote, and it seems like it is more stable, but WinAmp Remote has the ability to stream online videos. And the Windows Media Center PC option is perfect if you have a Media Center PC.

Do Not Disturb - Writing in Progress

Writing has to be the loneliest profession. The late President John Fitzgerald Kennedy, may have argued that point. He once said, "the presidency is the loneliest job in the world." I can't imagine anything lonelier than writing.

Winsome Tv Trays

When I write, sometimes I feel isolated and lonely. I am aware that I am unable to write when there are people in the same room. I am distracted from any worthy or creative ideas. I feel a need to be alone. At times I forget to eat or get out of my pajamas. I won't answer the telephone, or if the doorbell rings. I admire writers that can write with little distraction. I am not one of them.

Winsome Tv Trays

The best ideas I have to write about, find me in the worst circumstances, like soaking in a bath or showering. I sometimes dream about having a waterproof chalkboard in my bathroom. I feel I am unable to capture that moment again. I forget where my creative momentum left off, as I dry off from a shower. That is only one example of many.

The most comfortable place I write best, is on my bed with my laptop computer. I go all the way in comfort. My bed has the best props imaginable. I place a wedged TV pillow behind my back, I place my laptop on an adjustable lap tray, so I can achieve the proper incline to easily peck at my keyboard. I make sure I have plenty of bottled water by my side. I have the telephone close by my side. I can chose to ignore it or answer it. I supply myself with a pen and pad, in case my computer lags or freezes up. Then I can push everything aside, and take a nap if I am plagued by writer's block. This doesn't happen too often.

When I become aware of how lonely I feel, I am sometimes able to concentrate with my television on at low volume. Those moments are rare. I feel less threatened from that lonely feeling of isolation. Other times, any noise may distract me.

I have the symptoms of a troubled writer. I can not imagine being a writer by profession, and having a wife with children around. Even being in a relationship with a girlfriend may spell trouble. I would not expect my mate to understand my awkward behavior. I promised myself I would not get involved in any relationship before I finish the book I am writing. Only some writers would fully understand my strange ways.

Sometimes I look back to the old fashioned ways a writer use to get by with. I envision them writing in an uncomfortable chair at a typewriter-- especially old writers dipping their pen in an inkwell. If they made errors, how would they correct them besides throwing away the paper? There was no whiteout or correctable typewriter ribbon. How in the world did they survive? I suppose the same example applies to other things in today's modern society, by imagining a person cooking their dinner on the stove top, oppose to a microwave.

I am so grateful for the invention of computers. There is no paper to deal with until the final print. Errors and editing is made easy by backtracking or proofreading. Writing is so much easier and enjoyable today.

I began writing at the age of fifteen. I typed my words on a typewriter seated in an uncomfortable chair. There was no other way back then. I would write my stories in a "letters to the editor" format, and later see some of them published in the local newspaper. The acceptance would thrill me. It became a habit. I loved writing. It was in my blood.

Looking back, the stupidest article I ever wrote was about my longing to be accepted having long hair in the early '70s. I made the worst blunder by comparison in making my point that "God" had long hair. Of course I meant "Jesus" had long hair. I never heard the end of that one.

At first, I felt humiliated by the critics who wrote in, and did an article on my article alone. I recall one critic that entitled their article or letter, "Long Hair, Silly Comparison." This critic chastised me up and down. But I noticed one good thing about it all--in time, I began to enjoy the criticism. It made me popular in newsprint. I was being noticed--but sometimes in a stupid light. I learned another lesson from this--write better, and make better sense in an intelligent, mature style. My newfound style of writing mature articles on debatable subjects intrigued me.

Now forty years later, I enjoy writing powerful articles on the internet. When I became an alcoholic, my ambition to write was lost. It no longer appealed to me. When I sobered up, there was so much of my life to write about. I began to connect well with my readers on subjects, such as, alcoholism, drug addiction, suicide, anger, and grief.

Now I feel I made a comeback with a renewed ambition. I try to write my stories to help people feel that they are not alone in how they feel. I feel if I strike a chord, I have achieved success and happiness. Writing can be so powerful. But there is one drawback--I need to put a sign out on my bedroom door knob that reads, "Do Not Disturb, Writing In Progress."

Smart Habits For Success - From Setbacks

You've heard of smart cars, smart homes and smart phones. Objects that can perform many different functions automatically. But now I'd like to introduce you to what I call smart habits of success. These actions help take you automatically to higher achievements, accomplishments and success.

Winsome Tv Trays

Experts say it takes 21 to 31 days to develop a habit. Here's the smart habits of success in this new economy.

Winsome Tv Trays

I. Persistence

A persistent attitude is a trait you can be develop and strengthen, just like a muscle.

Here's simple habits that will help you develop persistence:

1. Practice being persistent in the things you do each day.

2. Refuse to quit at the first signs of defeat or opposition toward small goals. Get in the habit of trying one more time.

3. Face each temporary defeat, obstacle or setback with persistence. The more you do that the easier it will be to persist and the harder it will be to quit.

This is the quality that winners have, especially the one's who win against the odds. Losers do the opposite, they find it easy to quit and hard to persist or finish.

II. Ability To Fail Constructively

A common trait most people who find success have is their ability to fail constructively. The difference between failure and success comes in your ability to learn from your failures, mistakes and setbacks. The average and below average fail to learn from their mistakes or failures and continue to repeat them.

Everyone fails at some point. That's why it's vital to know how to face failures constructively. Learning how to face failures successfully and use them for your benefit is essential for success. To fail constructively ask yourself the following self-questions after experiencing a failure or setbacks.

Ask the... Who, What, Where, When, Why, How questions.

For example:

A. Who - did I fail?

B. What - should I have done?

C. When - should I have done it?

D. Where - should I have done it?

E. Why - did I do what I did?

F. How - can I do better next time?

With every failure you encounter ask and answer these self questions (as a minimum). They'll give you the answers needed to improve your future efforts and turn your failures into success.

III. Ability To Shake Discouragement

Shaking discouragement is the small but important detail you must have to achieve success in life. The person who can shake discouragement, failure and setbacks, pick themselves up and persist toward their goal is a winner.

Contrary to popular belief, it's not just the failures in life who experience discouragement. By reading biographies of the famous and successful you'll find most had one thing in common. Know what? They all had obstacles, problems and setbacks along the way that could have caused discouragement. However, they were able to shake discouragement and continue toward their goals until they achieved them.

Vital Tips To Help You Shake Discouragement

1. Have a Specific Goal!

Have something to look forward to. That's important to help keep discouragement at arm's length. When you're busy you don't have time for discouragement.

Goal oriented people tend to shake discouragement easier, because their mind is kept busy.

2. Learn From Examples of Inspiring People In Your Life!

Most successful achievers can name other people who inspired them mentally and emotionally. For example, a relative, friend, acquaintance, teacher, boss, pastor, author, speaker etc.

Observe and learn what it is about them that's inspiring or uplifting to you. Is it their enthusiasm? Determination? Patience?

Next practice doing them at every opportunity. For example, if it's enthusiasm you identify as the inspiring trait, practice being enthusiastic. Practice makes improvement.

3. Read Inspiring Stories!

Another effective way to learn from the examples of inspiring people is to read their stories. You can do this through books, magazines, articles or watching them on television.

People who overcome tough odds, problems and setbacks have powerful ways to motivate themselves.

By reading how others have overcome problems and achieved victory gives us the feeling of " if they can overcome their problems, so can I!"

These are the smart habits to help you achieve and maintain success. Work at them until they become a habit. You'll discover they will pay you rich rewards for the small effort invested. Now that's smart!

How to Create a Romantic Breakfast

Is there anything better than sharing a leisurely weekend breakfast? Breakfast is my favourite meal of the day and it's easy to jazz up if you want to make it romantic. With breakfast there's none of the pressure of dinner when you need to keep up lively conversation. Just bury you head in the newspaper, look up and smile sweetly at each other occasionally. There's no need to organise a three-course gourmet meal--anything goes at breakfast. Feel like keeping it low key? Why don't you both go for a stroll to the local shops and pick up a takeaway coffee, a croissant and the newspapers? Take them to the park, find a spot in the sun and while away the hours. Surprise your partner by collecting the coffee, croissants and papers and bring them back to bed for a leisurely start to the morning?

Winsome Tv Trays

Breakfast in bed is always a treat--despite the crumbs. It can be as simple or as extravagant as you like. Bacon and eggs, muesli and yogurt, there are heaps of breakfast ideas for breakfast in bed. Start a ritual of a weekend breakfast at cafes and diners. Find a favourite, make it your place and go there every weekend. Sometimes not having to think about what to do for breakfast is a bonus--especially if you're not a morning person. Or if you are more adventurous a great romantic breakfast idea is to sample lots of different cafes. It amazing how many variations there are on an old favourite like an omelette or even something more calorific like Eggs Benedict. If you are organising breakfast in bed as a treat for you partner then there are a few things to consider.

Winsome Tv Trays

Be prepared. You don't want to be dashing down to the corner shop for last minute supplies. Make sure you've got all the ingredients you need. Do as much of it as you can the night before. Cheat if you need to. Reheat frozen croissants, use pancake mixture, get the juice from the bottle. Don't let a lack of skills get in your way. However... Don't punch above your weight. If you're not a great cook then don't make a cheese souffle. You'll only get stressed out and breakfast won't be enjoyable for anyone. It won't be romantic if you're upset about what you've cooked (or messed up). This is one occasion when the thought really does count, so go for simple recipes (and cheat like crazy) for your romantic breakfast. Make it pretty. Lay it out on a tray. If you plan on making breakfast in bed a regular event invest in a pair of those dinky trays with legs, or even the ones with the cushion base with the tray on top. That way your brilliant creation won't topple over. Otherwise a big platter will do the trick. Use a napkin. Put a flower in a small jar. The payoffs in the detail.

If you or your partner are one of those people who finds the whole idea of crumbs in the bed just plain horrible, then a breakfast at the table might be just the thing. The principles are the same for breakfast in bed.

Keep it simple. Cook or prepare what you know you can do successfully. It can be simply delicious with a menu of juice, eggs, toast and coffee or you might like to jazz it up a little. Try an exotic juice like guava, with eggs benedict and espresso. Be as simple or adventurous as you dare with lots of recipes for romantic breakfast ideas. Lay a beautiful table. Use your imagination. It might be a blanket in front of the fire, or a small table on you balcony, or in front of a big window. Have a jug of fresh flowers on the table. Use the prettiest china you can find. It doesn't have to match, in fact it can more charming if it doesn't. Turn the tv off and set the scene with some cafe theme music. It's all in the detail. Preparation is the key. Go shopping the day before and make sure you have everything you need.

Now what to eat? The food you choose to serve at breakfast can be as simple or as extravagant as you want.

Breads are always a great choice. There are many types of bread out there from fruit to sourdough, from rye to wholemeal. Serve it fresh or toasted. Dip it in batter to make french toast. For a true French feel why not serve a croissant. You can either whip down to the nearest bakery to get them fresh, or buy them frozen or packaged and reheat them when needed. Eggs are often a part of breakfast and for good reason--they're so versatile. Have them scrambled, fried, served in their shell or poached. Serve them with hollandaise sauce for Eggs Benedict or with spinach for Eggs Florentine. Boil them, poach them, whatever. A breakfast isn't complete without juice. Orange is always a favourite and freshly-squeezed shows you really care (or maybe have a bit too much time on your hands). But don't be limited by tradition. Introduce some new trends with guava, pomegranate and mango juices. Why not serve up a bloody or virgin mary or even a mimosa. Champagne. Choose the best fizz you can afford and always serve it in a champagne flute. Champagne and strawberries are aphrodisiacs, and who wouldn't feel spoiled sipping on champers and scoffing strawberries. If it worked for Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, then it may well work for you. Pomegranates and mango are also aphrodisiacs, but it might be worth leaving the oysters for another meal.

Storage Auctions: 5 Steps to Hidden Riches

The business of storage auctions have been brought to light recently both by local and national media and has shed light on how to make money in a relatively low risk and high reward environment. Today's financially uncertain and transient society has certainly created an abundant opportunity from coast to coast as it relates to storage units being available by auction to due- non payment. Perhaps the ultimate example of growth and interest in storage auctions is the new hit television series Storage Wars. Storage Wars has had a viewing audience of 2.8 million viewers per episode in its initial season and is already filming more episodes for season number two. With an understanding of the excitement of this relatively new business let us now take a closer look at how in fact to profit from it. The following is a simple outline for beginners to get started without risking too much time or money while in search of treasure:

Winsome Tv Trays

1) Do your homework. There is no substitute for going to as many auctions as you can find in your area and leaving your money at home. That is right, the temptation will be significant to "win" your first auction, often times however this translates to paying too much for too little. Instead, watch and observe the process as there is no substitute for experience. The people that will be there will be more experienced than you so look, listen and if the opportunity is there ask questions. If you bring your money to your first 10 auctions, chances are you will have a disappointing initial experience. Remember, this is a business and must be treated as such. If you do not have many auctions in your area you may have to do some traveling at least initially to speed up the learning curve.

Winsome Tv Trays

2) Establish an exit strategy for your acquisitions in advance. First decide how to throw away or give away items that you do not wish to try to sell. Then have a plan for selling your future auction items and decide if it is a match before you bid on a storage unit. For example, common items found in storage may be clothes, tires, furniture, dishes, etc. Decide in advance what may be a good investment and worth your time, energy and money.

3) Develop a written business plan complete with short term and long term goals and expectations. It is important to treat this as a business. It doesn't matter whether it is part time or full time it is about making sound written plans and sticking to those plans. Remember once the auctions start it is exciting and the natural reaction will to be to "win" the auction and go see what you just won. Don't let the emotions overtake the original goals of acquiring items that can make you money. It's like Vegas or Wall Street, decide in advance if your in it for the profit or just for the action. Remember, there is nothing wrong with attending to just to have action, just make sure if you do intend to make an effort to run a business, the business plan must be in place. For those that are professional gamblers or stockbrokers they practice sound money management routines. This is very hard to do in an exciting environment and you are on the clock, sort of speak. If it doesn't fit the plan or the price gets too high you must learn to pass and wait for another opportunity.

4) Bid only on what you actually can see and make sure you can break even based on what you see. In a storage auction you can only look at the content from the outside without touching. Many times there may be multiple units up for auction at the same storage facility and a pretty large number of potential bidders that may range from 10 to 100 people. The auction has to stay on schedule as there are often several different locations on the same day for the auction company to complete the auctions. Therefore, you may only get a brief view of the upcoming lot as you wait your turn in line to look. Sometimes there is plenty of time to view and decide, but large turnouts and busy schedules may mean that you get 30 seconds to look and decide if you want to bid and if so how much to bid. As a general rule, try to determine if this meets your business criteria based solely on what you can see. You at least need to break even based on what you can see as compared to what you are setting as your max bid. That way anything else you find is pure profit. If you are bidding high in hopes of finding the home run like on TV you may be in for a long wait. The auction related shows are geared towards ratings and catching the excitement of finding the unexpected. It is exciting to bid and find the unexpected treasure and it is out there, just remember you may need to break even on many units before you find the treasure so bid to break even on what you can see and allow the unknown to be the profit.

5) Allow yourself enough resources to make a profit and enjoy the process. The number one reason businesses fail is lack of resources. This may mean lack of money, time, energy, planning, etc. This is not a get rich quick plan and this is not TV. However, you will experience the excitement and you will find valuable investments if you are patient and avoid the common pitfalls associated with this business. Look at things on a long timeline, perhaps even part time. Like with any business or investment or gambling, once you are out of resources your out of the game or business. Divide your auctions into sessions and plan how many you plan to attend and spend per unit or per day or week or month or year. If you can make it a year with solid money management chances are you will have found some diamonds in the rough, made a solid profit and had fun along the way.

I hope this article helps in your search for storage auction treasure. Follow these steps and you will be well ahead of the game. Remember, do your homework and treat storage auctions as a business in order to keep the cash flow going and the big unit you win for pennies on the dollar will be yours just like on TV. Enjoy the process and best of luck.
